Labiaplasty (Labia Minora Reduction)

Labiaplasty Treatment in Jaipur

About Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is a surgery in which the labia minora — the lips of the vagina — are trimmed to reduce size and improve aesthetic appearance. At our center, this procedure is performed by Dr. Mayuri Kothiwala, a qualified cosmetic gynecologist and the best best labiaplasty surgeont in Jaipur.

We also suggest considering Hymenoplasty treatment in Jaipur where the torn edges of the hymen are identified, the margins freshened up and the remaining tissue is stitched together, leaving a small opening — giving psychological relief and regain of self-confidence.

How it Works

Procedure Details

Labiaplasty involves reshaping the lips of vagina. The extra, redundant tissue is excised either with knife or Co2 laser and remaining flaps are stitched back using very fine sutures, keeping aesthetic value in mind. It is generally performed under local anaesthesia but can be done under general anaesthesia too. It is an OPD procedure, takes less than an hour and you go home immediately after the procedure.

Rarely, bleeding, infection, scarring and reduced sensitivity of genitals can be seen after the procedure. When done by wedge resection technique, it creates a small horizontal scar that is nearly invisible after healing is complete. This technique spares critical nerves and preserves arterial supply. Labiaplasty is a safe cosmetic procedure done on external female genitalia. It does not have any effect on fertility of the female.

It takes around 6 weeks to completely recover from the surgery. You may take off from work for the first few days if pain and discomfort are bothersome.

During this time you need to:

  • Take your antibiotics and painkillers as advised
  • Keep the area hygienic and free from infection
  • Wear loose undergarments and pants to prevent friction
  • Avoid sex for about 6 weeks, till there is complete recovery
  • Avoid heavy physical activity for 6 to 12 weeks — that includes cycling, pelvic floor exercises, and outdoor games
  • Avoid use of tampons for a few weeks

Contact us immediately if you notice excessive bleeding, signs of infection, unusual swelling, or fever after the procedure.

Who Gets Labiaplasty?

Elongated labia with bizarre shape might cause difficulty during sex and reduced pleasure. In some women, lager labia are even visible through their undergarments and costumes. This might have a great psychological impact in some females with reduced self-confidence.

The beauty of external genitalia is a subjective matter for all women and aesthetic genital surgery done for cosmetic and functional reasons definitely helps in improving psychological, physical, and sexual states.

Types of Labiaplasty Techniques

Labiaplasty can be performed using several surgical and energy-based techniques depending on anatomy, aesthetic goals, and functional concerns. Each method differs in incision style, tissue removal pattern, healing time, and scar placement. Learning about these techniques helps patients select the best option according to their comfort, cosmetic goals, and professional medical guidance.

Trim Technique

The trim method removes extra tissue from the outer border of the labia minora to provide a neater, smoother, and reduced appearance. It is one of the most common methods, ideal for darker or uneven edges, and offers predictable results with straightforward surgical execution.

Wedge Technique

The wedge method removes a V-shaped portion from the thicker area of the labia while keeping the natural outer edge intact. This method maintains a more natural appearance, reduces visible scarring, and is often preferred for patients wanting contour improvement without edge removal.

De-epithelialization

De-epithelialization involves removing only the superficial skin layers from specific central areas while preserving the labial edge. This technique reduces size without significantly altering natural shape or color. This option works well for patients who have only slight excess tissue and want a gentle, natural-looking reduction.

Z-Plasty

Z-plasty is a specialized reconstructive technique that uses angled incisions to reshape tissue, improve flexibility, and minimize scar tension. It is often chosen for correcting previous surgical complications, asymmetry, or scar contracture while preserving function and enhancing cosmetic outcomes.

Laser Labiaplasty

Laser labiaplasty uses laser energy instead of traditional scalpels to cut and reshape tissue with precision. It may reduce bleeding, swelling, and recovery time. This method offers smoother incisions, but results depend heavily on surgeon expertise and patient suitability.

Radiofrequency Methods

Radiofrequency labiaplasty uses controlled heat energy to cut, tighten, or reshape tissue while minimizing bleeding. This modern technique may provide improved precision, reduced thermal damage, and faster healing. It is often selected for patients seeking less invasive tissue contouring.

Labiaplasty is being done since 1970’s. It is gaining popularity with time as females are becoming aware of the available cosmetic procedures and concerned for their sexual health.

Labia Minora (Inner Lips): These are the smaller, inner folds of skin around the vaginal opening. They are more delicate, sensitive, and naturally visible in many women. If enlarged, they may cause discomfort or show through tight clothing.

Labia Majora (Outer Lips): These are the larger, outer folds that protect the inner structures. They are thicker, less sensitive, and act like a protective covering. If they become loose or saggy, the vaginal area may appear more open.

Labia minora reduction usually takes about 30–45 minutes. Labia majora reduction may take 45–60 minutes. If both are done together, surgery may last 60–90 minutes. Including check-in, preparation, anesthesia, recovery, and discharge instructions, most patients spend around 2–3 hours at the clinic.

You will notice a change immediately after surgery, but swelling can make the area look larger at first. Within 1–2 weeks, swelling reduces significantly. By 3–6 weeks, most swelling improves and results become clearer. Final natural-looking results usually appear by 3–6 months.

Most women need about 3–7 days of rest before returning to light daily activities. Swelling and mild discomfort are common in the first week. Exercise, cycling, and sexual activity are usually avoided for about 4–6 weeks for proper healing.

Labiaplasty reshapes or reduces the outer or inner vaginal lips (labia) for comfort or cosmetic reasons. Vaginoplasty tightens the internal vaginal canal, often after childbirth or due to vaginal looseness. Labiaplasty focuses on external appearance, while vaginoplasty focuses on internal tightening.

Labiaplasty has a very high success rate, usually around 95–98%. Most women are happy with the appearance, comfort, and confidence after surgery when performed by an experienced surgeon.

Results are usually permanent because the removed tissue does not grow back. Natural aging or childbirth may cause some future changes, but most women enjoy long-lasting improvement for many years.

Yes, labiaplasty is generally safe when performed by a qualified and experienced surgeon. Like any surgery, there are possible risks such as swelling, infection, scarring, or asymmetry, but serious complications are uncommon with proper care.

Labiaplasty is usually recommended after full physical development, often after age 18. However, in some medical cases involving severe discomfort, younger patients may also be considered after proper evaluation.

Women choose labiaplasty for different personal, physical, or cosmetic reasons. Some experience discomfort from enlarged or uneven labia during walking, exercise, cycling, or sexual activity. Others may feel irritation from tight clothing or self-conscious about appearance. Many women also choose it to improve confidence, comfort, and hygiene.

Insurance usually does not cover labiaplasty because it is cosmetic, but medically necessary cases may qualify for partial benefits. Check your specific insurance plan.

With proper surgical technique and experience, labiaplasty typically does not reduce sexual feeling. In some cases, women may even feel more comfortable and confident during intimacy because discomfort from excess tissue is reduced. Some temporary numbness or altered sensitivity can happen after surgery, but this often improves with healing.

Yes, labiaplasty is considered a permanent procedure because excess labial tissue is surgically removed and does not grow back. The results are long-lasting and usually remain for life. Although aging or childbirth may slightly affect results, the surgically removed tissue does not grow back.

Strict bed rest is usually needed only for 1–2 days. Most patients can walk carefully within 24–48 hours, but resting and avoiding strain during the first week helps healing.
